The Michigan Institution for the Deaf-Mutes and the Blind is also known as the Michigan Institution for the Education of the Deaf and Dumb, and the Blind, the Michigan Asylum, and the Michigan School for the Blind. In 1879 the school was separated into the Michigan School for the Deaf and the Michigan School for the Blind.
